Shoulder Challenge Mechanics
EA SPORTS FC 27 adjusts shoulder challenge behavior to prioritize side-by-side positioning over rear attacks. The update states that challenges are most effective when the defender is level with the ball carrier rather than attempting a tackle from behind. To prevent spamming, repeatedly pressing the shoulder challenge button in quick succession while chasing an opponent now causes the defender to stick out an arm and lose speed. This change makes it more difficult to chase down opponents by continuously using the input until a challenge triggers.

Team Press Restrictions
The Team Press feature no longer functions while the ball is in your defensive third. This adjustment removes the automatic pressure that AI teammates previously applied close to goal. As a result, defending players must take more responsibility for applying pressure in these situations rather than relying on automated teammate actions.

Defensive Depth and AcceleRATE
Lower depth settings now more clearly reflect defensive line positioning. Defenders retreat sooner and maintain a more conservative position to leave less space in behind. Additionally, the additional benefit provided by Bruiser+ has been slightly reduced. Broader AcceleRATE adjustments reduce the impact of profiles on running performance, making Lengthy players less dominant while keeping Explosive and Controlled players competitive.

Triggered Runs and Height Limits
Triggered Runs now have a limited distance. Players must trigger another run if they want the player to continue their movement, requiring more active input for longer runs. In FC 27, female players must be at least 5’8” (172 cm) to be eligible for the Lengthy profile.
